SYNOPSIS

Across six stories in New York City, strangers, lovers, friends, and reluctant companions cross paths in fleeting encounters. Together they form a portrait of young people searching for a little bit of softness in a city filled with millions of others doing the same.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT

Treat Me Softly started as an improv project and an excuse to collaborate with friends. The original idea was simple: work with one actor, give them a few prompts, and see where they took us.

As the project continued, however, it gradually evolved into an anthology of six stories. What connected them was something I kept finding in each character: people searching for connection, intimacy, and compassion in a city as crowded, yet lonely, as New York.

Working on Nueva York y Punto as the visual director of the interview series, I repeatedly heard my colleague ask our guests the same question: “What has New York meant to you?” After hearing so many different answers, I began to realize that, in a way, Treat Me Softly had become my own response.

I’ve spent the first half of my twenties in New York, and those years have been defined by the people I’ve encountered: the midnight sages, the reluctant comrades, the fleeting loves, and the peers who are as lost and hopeful as I am. Despite how different they were, I found something familiar in all of them, and ultimately, something I ended up portraying in this project: we are all looking for someone to treat us with a little bit of softness.
